Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN-06) defended President Donald Trump against claims that he’s a “racist” by saying they are “manufactured” accusations at a Christian Science Monitor event Thursday.
“There’s not a racist bone in this president’s body,” he said. ”What he was trying to say, he said wrong. What he was trying to say is that if you don’t appreciate this country, you don’t have to be here. That goes for every one of us. It has nothing to do with your race, your gender, your family history. It has to do with respecting and loving the country that has given you the opportunities that you have.”

Emmer denounced the “send her back” chants directed at Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-5) during Trump’s rally in North Carolina Wednesday.
“I didn’t watch the rally last night, sorry, but there’s no place for that kind of talk. I don’t agree with it,” the Minnesota representative said.
In the Oval Office Thursday, the president expressed his disappointment with the chant.
“I was not happy with it. I disagree with it. But again, I didn’t say that. They did. But I disagree with it,” he said.
At the rally, Trump criticized Omar’s position on Israel and described her as having misgivings with Americans.
“I mean, think of that one, and she looks down with contempt on the hardworking American, saying that ignorance is pervasive in many parts of this country. And obviously and importantly, Omar has a history of launching vicious antisemitic screeds. When she talked about evil Israel, and it’s all about the benjamins. Not a good thing to say. So that’s Omar. That’s Omar.”
Omar responded to Trump’s comments by saying he is “spewing” fascism.
